Outreach/Volunteer Coordinator Librarian

Job Title: Outreach Librarian
Location: Elk Rapids District Library
Position Type: Part-Time approximately 20-25 hours @ $17 per hour
Position Overview:
The Elk Rapids District Library is seeking an energetic and community-driven Outreach Librarian to expand library services beyond our walls! This role focuses on organizing and engaging volunteers, scheduling and operating our Bike Book Mobile, building relationships with community organizations, and assisting with general library desk duties.
The ideal candidate is outgoing, passionate about literacy and accessibility, and excited to ride the Bike Book Mobile to Wednesdays on River Street and Friday Farmer’s Market and to represent the library at similar events throughout the community. Key Responsibilities: Outreach & Community Engagement
 Plan and maintain the Bike Book Mobile schedule and volunteers, ensuring a strong presence at community events.
    Ride the Bike Book Mobile to Wednesdays on River Street the Farmer’s Market on Fridays, and other community events to engage with patrons of all ages.
 Build partnerships with local organizations, schools, and businesses to promote library services.
 Represent the library at community events, sharing information and encouraging library use.

Volunteer Coordination
 Recruit, train, and manage volunteers to assist with outreach efforts and library programs.
 Develop schedules and assignments for volunteers to support library events and services.

Circulation & Patron Services:
 Assist at the circulation desk by checking items in and out, registering new patrons, updating patron profiles, and processing holds.
 Help patrons locate materials, answer basic questions, and provide friendly, efficient customer service.
 Sort, shelve, and organize books, media, and other library materials, maintaining accurate placement and order on shelves.

Qualifications:
 High School Diploma (some college preferred)
 Experience working with volunteers and/or community engagement preferred.
 Availability during daytime, some evenings and weekend hours to support library operations and events
 Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
 Enthusiastic, friendly, and passionate about community outreach and literacy.
 Comfortable riding a e-assist bicycle and willing to operate the Bike Book Mobile regularly.
 Strong customer service and communication skills, with a friendly, positive approach
 Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and handle multiple tasks
Subject to criminal background and prior employment verification

Physical Requirements:
 Ability to ride a bicycle and lift/carry books and materials for outreach events.
 Ability to stand, bend, lift and carry 20lbs and work (up to) an 8-hour shift
 Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
