Description

Amazing Adaptations of Aquatic Macroinvertebrates
Northern Michigan is home to a vast array of aquatic macroinvertebrates, including insects, crustaceans, worms, snails, and more. Each species is vying to get ahead in this bug eat bug world, and some of the adaptations that they have developed to get ahead are truly amazing. From extendable jaws to flattened bodies streamlined for life in a river’s current, each adaptation is unique and perfectly suited to the environment where the species is found. Come to learn about some of these amazing adaptations and how they are helping to further our understanding of life in a stream.
